A Holistic Approach to Substance Use and Depression in Older Adults
Erica Stokes| December 18, 2024
Older adults face a unique combination of mental health challenges, including depression and substance use disorder (SUD). Recent studies show that 11.8% of older adults experience symptoms of depression, and a concerning 0.3% of those aged 65 and older suffer from both depression and SUD (Oss, 2024). These conditions, particularly alcohol use disorder (AUD), are common in the 65-74 age group, and they often go untreated.
At CSBMG, we are dedicated to offering comprehensive support to older adults dealing with both depression and SUD. By providing a combination of inpatient, outpatient, and virtual services, we can meet the diverse needs of this population and foster a positive path to recovery. Our approach is grounded in empathy, understanding, and evidence-based practices that help older adults regain their well-being.
