CSBMG celebrates IDD Awareness March 2024

Each year providers and individuals from around Georgia and the United States take time to shine a spotlight on the I/DD population. As an organization CSBMG provides I/DD services to individuals from 16 counties in nine day centers and over a dozen living arrangements. Celebrating I/DD awareness is one of the highlights of the calendar year for staff in the program and of course individuals served.

Intellectual and developmental disabilities encompass a diverse range of conditions that affect cognitive functioning, communication, and daily living skills. From Down syndrome and autism spectrum disorder to cerebral palsy, each person with IDD experiences unique challenges and strengths. IDD Awareness Month serves as a platform to advocate for the rights and inclusion of individuals with IDD in all aspects of society. It’s an opportunity to challenge stereotypes, combat stigma, and promote acceptance. By fostering a culture of inclusivity, we can create a world where everyone, regardless of ability, has equal opportunities to thrive and contribute.

This month’s celebration culminates with two events on March 22, 2024 in Dublin and March 27, 2024 in Millen. These events give individuals the opportunity to see their friends from other programs, enjoy a day filled with games and dancing and of course eat an awesome meal prepared by staff. Everyone in attendance will receive a t-shirt and goody bags sponsored by the CSB of Middle Georgia.

“I/DD Awareness is our favorite time of the year,” said Stephen Smith Director of I/DD Services at the CSBMG. “Celebrating our individuals and fostering a culture of discovered abilities is what our program is all about. I am thankful to our great staff and wonderful individuals who make this month and all other months special at this agency.”
