CSBMG Leadership Staff Engaged in Transformative Training with Dr. Yanick Hicks

Today, over 60 members of the CSBMG Leadership Team participated in an engaging and impactful training session led by Dr. Yanick Hicks, a certified John Maxwell Speaker, Coach, and Trainer. Dr. Hicks is passionate about helping individuals and organizations achieve their personal and professional growth goals. Through dynamic group trainings and personalized one-on-one coaching, he has successfully guided countless businesses toward improved leadership, communication, performance, and overall team development.
Before transitioning into full-time coaching and speaking, Dr. Hicks served as a pharmacist with Walgreens. It was during that time he discovered his unique ability to recognize the strengths of others and empower them to lead with confidence and purpose. His passion for inspiring growth in people led him to pursue his calling as a transformational leader.
During the CSBMG training, Dr. Hicks delivered powerful insights grounded in the philosophy that “leadership is influence—nothing more, nothing less.” He encouraged participants to reflect on their personal and professional growth, emphasizing that “it’s not where you start, it’s where you’re going.” Key concepts included the transition from being a “Star” (manager) to a “Star Creator” (leader), the importance of listening before leading, and practicing daily self-reflection by asking: What went right? What went wrong? What can I do differently?
Dr. Hicks also introduced a five-step leadership development model: (1) I do it, (2) I do it and you are with me, (3) You do it and I am with you, (4) You do it, and (5) You do it while mentoring someone else. He emphasized that great leaders know how to position others based on their unique strengths and talents. Attendees were also encouraged to embrace mentorship, break out of routines by trying something new daily, and to remember the value they bring as behavioral health professionals.
He concluded with the John Maxwell leadership pyramid, moving from Position (rights) to Permission (relationships), Production (results), People Development (reproduction), and ultimately Respect (pinnacle)—a reminder that leadership is a journey of growth, influence, and service. CSBMG is proud to invest in the development of its leaders and grateful to Dr. Hicks for his inspiring and thought-provoking session.
