Monday Motivation

We can approach life from a fixed or growth mindset.  A fixed mindset would lead us to step back into safety and be comfortable where we are.   The problem with this is that we never move forward.

A growth mindset on the other hand is exactly as it sounds – it leads us to grow in our lives, in our thought process, in our careers and in all aspects of existence.   Growing and evolving over time, keeps us engaged and active which in turn impact our overall health and wellbeing.  People who exhibit a growth mindset generally are those who do great things as they are always curious about what is next and how do we get to next.

Be curious and embrace change for the better.

On a side note – this quote is attributed to Abraham Maslow who developed Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.   This theory is one of the best known theories of motivation.  It begins with humans need for the basic physiological needs (food, water, and air to breathe, the next level on the pyramid is security and safety needs (financial security, health and wellness, physical security), the third level is love and belonging (friendships, family, romantic relationships, community, social, religious), the fourth level is appreciation and respect (esteem, sense of accomplishment and acknowledgement, sense of being valued) and the final level is self-actualization (being self-aware, less concerned with the opinions of others, concern with personal growth and filling one’s own potential).    Maslow was born in the Bronx in 1908 so this concept has been around for quite a while.
