Supporting the Mental Health Needs of Older Adults

The mental health needs of older adults are becoming an increasingly important area of focus in healthcare. According to a recent study, 11.5% of older adults in the U.S. experience a mental illness, and 8% struggle with substance use disorder (SUD) (Oss, 2024). While these numbers are lower than those found in younger populations, they still represent a significant portion of the elderly community, highlighting the importance of targeted interventions.

At CSBMG, we are committed to supporting the mental health and recovery needs of older adults. Programs tailored to this population are essential, especially as unique factors, such as socioeconomic status and gender, can influence mental health outcomes. Non-Hispanic Black and lower-income older adults, for example, are more likely to experience mental health challenges (Oss, 2024). By expanding our services and outreach, we strive to ensure that older adults receive the care they need to live healthier, happier lives.
