Wellness Wednesday

If I ran into you in the hallway today and asked you what brings you joy – what would your answer be? Do we live in a state of happiness and joy, or do we live in one of fear and anxiety? Peace, love, and joy are our natural state of being and we are born with this nature. It is when we begin to THINK that we start to lose our sense of joy and wonder. It is not what is happening that makes us fearful and anxious but what we THINK or PERCIEVE is happening (unless you are in a true life or death situation of course).

A few ways that you can reconnect with the things that bring you joy are:

1. List everything that immediately comes to mind that you love. Don’t edit your list in your mind before you write it down – just write. Sometimes we don’t allow ourselves the time and space to recognize the things we truly enjoy. No matter how big or small -write it down. A vacation to Hawaii or reading a book – doesn’t matter if it makes you happy and it is something you love.
2. What did you do in your spare time as a child? What was it that you did for fun? Did you love to color or be outdoors (I did), or what did you enjoy? We did not have as many restrictions on our time as a child as we do as adults – so what brought you joy and happiness then?
3. What are some of the things that you are interested in learning more about? We learn about things that we need to for our work or for other specific reasons, but what is something that you would simply love to learn more about? Have you always wanted to paint or draw? Are you interested in learning more about horses? Maybe you are interested in beginning a garden?
4. If, for one day, you were away from all the pressures of your normal day to day life, and money and time were no object – what would that day look like? Where would you go, what would you do, who would be with you?

You have now identified things that you know bring you joy and happiness and can find ways to work some of these into your daily routine so that you find more moments of joy! We can have joy in our daily lives!
