One question to ask yourself anytime you wish to make a purchase – do I have money set aside to take care of emergencies?  Could I afford 3 – 6 months of expenses if something happened that I was not able to work?  If you can’t answer yes to either of these questions – rethink the purchase.

Another question when making a purchase – does the thing that I am about to spend money on move me toward my overall financial goals or is it simply money out the window?    Make sure you are taking care of your future financial needs before spending money on things that are not an asset.
