Monday Motivation

Words matter!   Sometimes we must be truthful but there are ways to do this with compassion and kindness.   Before we speak, we should always be sure the words we convey are true!

There will always be those who will spread untruths and rumors but if we think before we speak, we will be doing our part to make the world a little bit kinder.

Promoting open communication and addressing concerns directly stop the flow of incorrect information or gossip.   We can do this by:

Open and honest communication. Make sure everyone has the right information so there is no guessing.

Address concerns directly.  Doing so provides accurate information and stops any misunderstandings before they start.

Build Trust.  Create a space where people feel comfortable asking you questions or coming to you with concerns.

Lead by Example.  If you hear a “well, we heard” or “the grapevine says” stop the speculation and find out the truth.

Use Positive Dialogue.  Promote positive conversations rather than dwelling on rumors and speculation.

Identify the Source.  If a rumor or certain speculation is causing significant disruptions, it is sometimes necessary to address the individual spreading the misinformation directly.

So many times, people face distressing situations because someone told someone who told someone who heard it from someone else.

You can always say things like:

“I haven’t heard anything about that, but I’ll be sure to check if there’s any official information available”.

“I’m not comfortable discussing rumors, let’s focus on facts”

Keep the focus on how we can help others live a better life, which is the entire reason we are here, and treat each other with kindness and respect and see what a difference it makes in everyone’s lives.
