Strengthening Addiction Treatment Through Hospital Partnerships

For individuals experiencing substance use disorders, a hospital visit can become an important opportunity to begin recovery. Increasingly, healthcare organizations are recognizing that effective addiction treatment should begin when individuals first seek medical care rather than waiting until after discharge.
The National Council for Mental Wellbeing (2026) highlighted hospital-based addiction consultation programs that help individuals begin medication treatment for opioid use disorder and connect with continued care.
In some literature it has been reported that patients receiving support through an addiction consultation team were twice as likely to engage in treatment following hospitalization.
Why Continuity of Care Matters
Recovery does not end when a patient leaves the hospital. Individuals may continue to face challenges involving housing, transportation, mental health, employment, and access to medication.
Coordinated care can help address these barriers by connecting individuals with community behavioral health providers, recovery resources, and follow-up services.
Building Stronger Community Connections
At Community Service Board of Middle Georgia (CSBMG), we understand that collaboration among healthcare professionals, behavioral health providers, and community organizations is essential.
When healthcare systems work together, individuals have greater opportunities to receive consistent support throughout their recovery journey.
A successful transition from hospital care to community support can make a meaningful difference in long-term recovery.
