Wednesday Wellness

The saying “You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make them drink” applies here. We can talk about healthy choices all day but if we don’t adopt them we are no better off.
The top five things that can help each of us live a longer and healthier life are:
- Getting 7-9 hours of quality sleep nightly! Your body works hard each night during deep sleep to boost your immune system and lots of other great things.
- Eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and healthy fats and limit sugar consumption.
- Get at least 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity each day.
- Avoid smoking or using tobacco products and if you choose alcohol limit consumption
- Manage stress levels. You can do this by practicing breathing techniques to slow your heart rate which in turn lowers the cortisol level produced during “fight or flight”.
Knowing these things is one thing but incorporating them into daily life seems to be the hard part. Even though we know that if we follow these guidelines, we may be medication free, live a better-quality life – we choose not to give up the things that keep us unhealthy.
Make Smart Choices.
