Monday Motivation
The Southeastern portion of the United States is still reeling from the two major hurricanes that impacted several states and so many have lost so much – kindness is the one thing that we can extend to each other right now that does not cost us anything. Patience has worn thin and everyone is tired but it takes zero effort to take a breath and be kind.
Think of the chain reaction that follow when someone is rude or snaps at another person – the receiver of this (whether it was intentional or not) then may either feel disrespected, they may experience fear or anxiety, shame, humiliation, sadness or even abandonment. And you may have just been tired…. Speaking kindness brings us all to a state of well-being and connection with others.
When you know that you are at your limit and feel that you may not be kind – take a break and find a quiet and calm place to simply sit and breathe – get away from the noise that is causing you to feel this way. Working with your breath is a great way to trigger the parasympathetic nervous system. When you feel anxious or irritable try breathing deeply through your nose into your belly for a count of four, hold for four, breathe out through your mouth for four and hold for four. Do this a few times and see if it does calm you.
This is a reminder for this time in our lives but also for every day. Kindness builds connection.
