The Hidden Dangers of Vaping – March Vaping Awareness Month

A Community Call to Action from CSB of Middle Georgia
As March Vaping Awareness Month unfolds, Community Service Board of Middle Georgia (CSBMG) is dedicated to raising awareness about the health risks of vaping and e-cigarette use, particularly among youth and young adults. The vaping epidemic continues to grow, with millions of adolescents exposed to nicotine addiction and harmful chemicals that can have long-term consequences (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2023).
Understanding the Risks of Vaping
Vaping has been falsely marketed as a safe alternative to smoking. However, research has linked e-cigarettes to severe lung diseases, cardiovascular problems, and cognitive impairments in adolescents (National Institute on Drug Abuse [NIDA], 2022). Nicotine addiction at a young age can also increase the likelihood of substance use later in life.
The Alarming Rise in Youth Vaping
The CDC (2023) reports that more than 2.5 million middle and high school students use e-cigarettes. This increase is fueled by the availability of flavored vaping products, peer pressure, and targeted marketing. Disposable vapes, which are popular among teens, contain dangerously high nicotine concentrations—sometimes more than an entire pack of cigarettes.
What Can We Do?
✔ Educate parents and youth about the dangers of vaping through community workshops.
✔ Partner with schools to provide evidence-based prevention programs.
✔ Offer resources for those struggling with nicotine addiction.
🔹 Let’s work together this March to fight the vaping epidemic. Share the facts. Start the conversation. Protect our youth.
