The Power of Storytelling in Mental Health Engagement

Gen Z consumes health information differently. They favor relatable experiences over formal titles and prefer videos, infographics, and peer stories (Oss, 2025).
According to the 2025 Edelman Trust Barometer, more than half of Gen Z rely on advice from people without medical degrees. That may sound alarming—but it’s also a signal. Young people are looking for honesty, empathy, and shared experience. We can answer that call.
By integrating peer navigators, producing digestible short-form educational content, and hosting real conversations with youth influencers and individuals with lived experience, CSBMG can help reshape the mental health narrative. Storytelling, as noted by documentarian Ken Burns, is one of the most powerful tools for persuasion and education—and it’s time we use it.
