Wellness Wednesday

Chronic stress is a prolonged state of stress that can lead to negative impacts on our physical and mental health. It can be related to an ongoing sense of being overwhelmed from things such as relationships, finances, health issues and work stress.
Chronic stress can impact our physical health by triggering headaches, muscle tension, digestive problems, fatigue, sleep disturbances and weakened immune systems and our mental health by causing anxiety, depression, irritability, and difficulty concentrating. We may notice a loss of interest in hobbies or things that used to bring us happiness.
The good news is – this can be remedied:
Lifestyle changes – increase physical activity which releases endorphins and can help to reduce stress hormones.
Prioritize sleep – 7-9 hours is the sweet spot for most people and sleep deprivation can worsen stress and anxiety.
Eat a healthy diet – eat whole, unprocessed foods which better regulate mood and energy levels.
Limit screen time – especially before bed.
Self-care – spend time in nature, read a book, take a walk, plant a garden, meditate, soak in a hot bath.
Breathwork – deep breathing can help to calm the nervous system
Journaling – just writing things down can help you to process thoughts and feelings
Social support – find your circle and connect.
Professional support – always seek professional support if needed.
